U11 Coach Bio
U11: Mark Volk
“Fun, Develop, Compete”
I believe any sport we play should be for the love of the game. Winning is fun obviously, however losing is an important part of growing as a player and team and can also be fun – as long as players are competing and developing their skills mentally, socially and physically while doing so.
As such it is the role of the Head Coach to ensure a fun, safe, structured environment in which players competing at the right level can fully enjoy games/practices bettering themselves as individuals and team players in all aspects of the game. This starts with sound practice planning focusing on the core hockey skills of skating, shooting, passing & game play. Building and implementing offensive and defensive systems appropriate to the age and development levels as per Hockey Canada guidelines allowing players to have Fun, Develop and Compete!
I have been involved in competitive hockey as a Head Coach, Asst Coach, Manager, Owner and Board member (currently U18 Convenor) for the past 12+ years. I have played hockey all my life and play to this day in various men's leagues. I have also coached competitive soccer, softball and taught shotokan karate over the years and incorporate common training themes and experiences across all these sports. I enjoy teaching and believe you can never stop learning.
Dates and bookings TBD post Oct 1st. Two Local tournaments (ie Sensplex), Two away (either Kingston, Montreal and/or possibly Jay Peak -depending on US/Canada border and COVID permitting)
