Return-to-School & Return-to-Hockey

Returning After a Concussion

A participant diagnosed with a concussion must follow Hockey Canada's Return-to-School Strategy, where applicable, and the Hockey-Specific Return-to-Sport Strategy. The strategies may begin at the same time and proceed concurrently.

Required Documents

  • Medical Assessment Letter confirming whether a concussion was diagnosed
  • Medical Clearance Letter before the participant returns to full practice and competition

Completed documentation should be provided to the coach or Safety Person and handled in accordance with the applicable association process.

School and Sport Progression

Where return to school applies, the participant must return to full-time school activities and provide medical clearance before progressing to Step 4 of the Hockey-Specific Return-to-Sport Strategy.
